Lletter to the editor - Ed @ 14:13 PST
The Board members of the Forest Preserve Users, Inc. would first like to thank the landowners that graciously accommodate the trail system for the benefit of the community, and also the members of our snowmobile club that follow the rules and regulations in accordance with the trail system.
Currently, the trail system is closed due to the lack of snow, however, this has not stopped certain individuals from riding on the closed trails that we have tried to diligently maintain and keep open year after year. This is considered trespassing, certain individuals have been identified and the authorities have been notified. We would like to take this opportunity to publicly apologize to the landowners on behalf of the organization and even the individuals for their disregard of the posted signs, as well as their blatant disrespect.
We do not condone this behavior and have been working with law enforcement to rectify this matter. We ask that the landowners be patient with the situation, and help cooperate with law enforcement to punish those that are breaking the law. We do not want to lose the trails that we have worked so hard to obtain and maintain for the community.
A majority of the members, whether a member of our organization or another, know the rules and follow them. Unfortunately, the actions of a few can ruin everything for the majority. We ask that any landowners or club members that have any concerns or damage to report please contact one of our board members so we can accurately report everything to the police.
Again, everyone in our organization is a volunteer, and we are doing everything within our means at this time. We hope to be able to officially open the trails and begin grooming so that everyone can enjoy the trail system that we have worked so hard to obtain.
We encourage the community to work together in filtering out those individuals that want nothing more than to ruin it for everyone else. Please report any misuse of the trail system to the local police immediately, with as much pertinent information on the snowmobile(s) and individual(s) as possible.
